I had a great experience interviewing my middle school gym teacher, Mrs. Zimmerman. Here’s what I asked her.
Me: Why did you decide to become a PE teacher?
Mrs. Zimmerman: I was a classics major for 2 1/2 years in college and I had to take a health science class, but I wasn’t into it. The teacher was phenomenal, and he inspired me to become a health science major.
M: What exercises do you think teens should do?
Z: I think that any activity teens like, like dancing, karate, or a sport. Then exercise becomes fun.
M: How often should teens exercise?
Z: I would say at least 3 times a week, but if the exercise is fun, I hope it would become a lifestyle.
M: What are the benefits of exercise?
Z: They are endless. We can talk for hours. Exercise makes our lives longer (not definitely, it seems that.) It makes daily tasks easier, because your heart and lungs are better. For example walking up stairs, and doing chores.
M: What would you advise teens in today’s world?
Z: You have to find what makes you happy. You have to be open to all experiences. Teens should be lifelong learners.
